Read an Excerpt:
Mike slipped precariously from the jet-ski onto the floor of the boat, his backside hit with a thud. I giggled at his embarrassment, but stopped when I noticed him staring at my bathing suit.
Lisa raised her eyebrows when she noticed what had Mike’s attention. “Look at little Sammy. She really is a girl.”
My cheeks heated. “Oh, shut up and get out of the way. There’s no fish in here.”
“You told me that the other day and yet, here you are. You wouldn’t have been hiding from us?” She grinned, and I could still feel Mike’s penetrating gaze.
At that moment I wanted to slap Lisa’s grinning face and poke out Mike’s staring eyeballs. I grabbed my T-shirt and shorts and slipped them on, and then turned and glared at Mike until he moved onto the boat seat.
“I wasn’t hiding. That’s something you do from your mom and dad. Now, move it or get run over.” I plopped myself on the seat and pushed the jet-ski away with an oar.
Lisa took the hint. She punched the forward button, leaving a small wake behind as she departed.
“And you…I’ll take you fishing only if you stop staring at me. It’s undignified and disrespectful.”
Mike’s eyes blinked as if they’d gone dry, and he turned his head from one side to the other. Over compensating, he closed his eyes whenever he faced me. That went on for a good two minutes until I broke down laughing. He laughed too.
