But the murder of a scientist who helped alter human DNA flips her world upside down. Madison must now use her enhanced powers to solve a murder - and defend the only family she's got.

As she works alongside the secret agency's cool-headed investigator, Madison soon discovers the outside world has its thrills - and chills.

My Review:

Madison is one of four genetically enhanced hybrids living within a protected compound.  They typically are unable to leave the compound but when it is discovered that one of the scientists involved in human DNA alterations, Madison has no choice.  She must figure out who is behind the murder and why.  The urgency of the situation escalates when it's discovered that the murder occurred after one of her housemates disappears from the compound.

There is a lighted mentioned romance that builds between Madison and the human detective involved in the case.  The romance doesn't overshadow the disappearance or the murder but gives the story a little more depth.  It's up to Madison to help solve the murder using the genetically enhanced powers that she's been enabled with before she loses anymore of her family.

This was a short story that takes the reader into the world of genetic hybrids.  The path to the conclusion was filled with twists, turns, and suspense.  I was engaged from the beginning and read the story in one sitting.  I found the dialogue between Madison and the detective, Nick St. Claire to be written well.
