ARC Review: Baby's Got Bit (Take It Like A Vamp, Book 2) by Candace Havens #NewRelease

About the Book:

Some consequences bite…big time.

Bennett Langdon has a firm no-relationships policy. Still, it doesn’t stop her from hooking up with a super-sexy bad boy at her best friend’s wedding. After all, it’s only one night—what harm could it do? Ten weeks later, a pregnant Bennett has her answer…

Linc Monahan can’t believe it. This wasn’t supposed to happen. He’s a werewolf, and shouldn’t be able to father a child with a human. Now Linc has to find some way to tell Bennett that not only do werewolves exist, but she’s about to have a baby with one.

But when word of their surprise conception gets out, the fur hits the fan. There are people who don’t want this baby to be born—even if it means killing. Now Bennett and Linc aren’t just fighting each other…they’re fighting for their lives.

My Review:

Please Note:  There may be spoilers from book 1 and potential spoilers from Baby's Got Bite!

Baby's Got Bite overlaps book 1, Take It Like A Vamp, for a short time at the beginning, taking thr eaders back to Casey and Nick's wedding in Greece. After the stage is set between Bennett and Linc, the story then jumps ahead 10 weeks. What was supposed to be a one night no-strings-attached fling becomes much more involved.

Linc is a werewolf, and as such, he is unable to get a human pregnant. Yet, here Bennett is pregnant and knows full well it belongs to Linc. Think about that for just a second - I'll wait..... The history provided by Bennett about her family is vague at best. Bennett's mother indicated that her father was gone and naturally she figured that meant either dead or he abandoned them...until she learns the truth about her parents.

The dialogue and banter between Linc and Benette is wonderful. It's playful at times and snarky at others. Bennett is fiercely independent, learning to take care of herself long ago. Have a hot and intense alpha male in her life was never the plan...but then again, neither was becoming a mother. The direction this book took in regards to unplanned parenthood and the union of two independent souls was refreshing. I'm so happy the author wrote the book with a caring, loving father who is involved, instead of making him appear incompetent or a deadbeat. Having a strong male take of the mantle of responsibility all while falling in love with the mother of his child is endearing and makes me hopeful for the their future.

The main issue I had with the book, which gave it 4/5 stars instead of 5/5 stars is the lack of an action sequence that the blurb indicates there will be.  We didn't have an "Alvinia" in book 2 like we did in book 1.  All of the build up to the uniting of 2 enemy clans in this book led to a pretty lackluster crescendo.

Baby's Got Bite was a wonderfully written and fast paced paranormal book, despite the action sequence issue. The story is fun and definitely hot and sexy.  The reader will get to visit with characters from Book 1 but they don't overshadow the main power couple.  If you're looking for quick paranormal romance reads, I recommend you check out both books in the Take It Like A Vamp series.
