Review: Dog with a Bone (Black Dog, Book 1) by Hailey Edwards #Paranormal #UrbanFantasy

About Dog with a Bone:

Half-bloods with Thierry’s skill set are given two options. They can join the conclave’s marshal program, or they can pack their bags. Turn down the job offer, and you’ve just shredded your residency pass for the mortal realm and booked yourself a one-way ticket to Faerie.

Texas is the only home Thierry has ever known, and she’s not going anywhere. Even if it means following in her notorious father’s footsteps as a peacekeeper. But pinning on the badge opens her eyes to the fact sometimes fae need protection too, and that sometimes humans are the real monsters.

Sapphyria's Review:

Thierry is half-human/half-fae.  Her mother is human and her father just happens to be the Black Dog of the Faerie High Court.

And her father is nowhere to be found.

Wonderful.

Thierry just completed the conclave's marshal program with hot incubus instructor, Shaw. Their first case together involves a human couple and a ranch near Odessa, Texas.  Rare breeds of fae are mysteriously appearing and Thierry and Shaw are running out of time to figure out why.

In the meantime, the romance that has been forbidden while Thierry was a student and Shaw was her instructor has finally broken free of its constraints.  There is still tension between them as they struggle to make the right choices but the intensity is believable.  Thierry and Shaw are well written characters that play off of each other but yet, can hold their own in situations that require it.  Their banter back and forth and innuendos are perfectly placed, evoking at least a smile in the reader, if not out loud laughter.

All isn't perfect between Thierry and Shaw, however.  Shaw is pretty dismissive of the humans; being nothing more than collateral damage as far as he's concerned.  The obvious dismissive attitude from Shaw bothers Thierry since she just happens to be half-human.

I really enjoyed this novel with all of it's mystery, chemistry, and action.  The suspense level is decent  while we read along, trying to figure out just what is happening with the rare fae that are out in the open.  I read Dog with a Bone all in one sitting while on vacation in the Chicago area.  After I started it, I just couldn't put it down until I was done.  Then I had that unfortunately time frame of anxiety called "waiting for the next book in the series to be released."  Well, Book 2, Heir of the Dog, is now available, and burning a hole in my iPad.

Note:  (I read Book 1 a while ago but am just now able to get to the review).
