A Scribe’s Course of Magical Studies in Heritage Avenged: Enchanted Bookstore Legend Two
by Marsha A. Moore

The Enchanted Bookstore Legends are about Lyra McCauley, a woman destined to be one of five strong women in her family who possess unique magical abilities and serve as Scribes in Dragonspeir. The Scribes span a long history, dating from 1200 to present day. Each Scribe is expected to journey through Dragonspeir, both the good and evil factions, then draft a written account. Each book contains magic with vast implications.

Lyra was first introduced to Dragonspeir as a young girl, when she met the high sorcerer, Cullen Drake, through a gift of one of those enchanted books. Using its magic, he escorted her into the parallel world of Dragonspeir. Years later, she lost that volume and forgot the world and Cullen. These legends begin where he finds her again—she is thirty-five, standing in his enchanted bookstore, and Dragonspeir needs her.

When Lyra reopens that enchanted book, she confronts a series of quests where she is expected to save the good Alliance from destruction by the evil Black Dragon. While learning about her role, Lyra and Cullen fall in love. He is 220 years old and kept alive by Dragonspeir magic. Cullen will die if Dragonspeir is taken over by the evil faction…Lyra becomes the Scribe.

In Heritage Avenged, the second epic fantasy romance of my Enchanted Bookstore Legends, Lyra questions whether Dragonspeir magic was responsible for her aunt’s death. She resolves to learn the truth and accepts the Imperial Dragon’s appointment into sorcery training with the Alliance. Additionally, her proficiency in magic craft is the only way she can bridge the gap between her human world and her lover’s. Cullen is her only family now. Evil forces try to steal her inherited scribal aura. Lyra must rely on her novice training to attempt to discover the truth about her aunt and find a life with Cullen.

Although Lyra has inherited the rare powers of a Scribe, among the highest in Dragonspeir, she cannot use her powers fully. She must learn and practice to drawn upon them with control through formal sorcery training. Members of the four Guardians who govern the Alliance are among her teachers. The Head Guardian, also known as the Imperial Dragon, instructs her how to apply knowledge of astronomy to work magical air instruments—the Spheres of Sidus and the Lacuna Ales—to help Lyra discover clues about her past and future. The Phoenix, along with Cullen, attempts to teach Lyra how to throw powerballs by extending her aura out of her body. This technique proves difficult and frustrates the new Scribe because her aura is too great for her to control once outside and in her hand. The Unicorn Guardian gives a lesson on the various types of good and evil magical creatures in Dragonspeir who she must know to survive. The eldest Guardian, the Tortoise, teaches Lyra the history of Scribes through his collection of journals and ancient writings.

Other residents of the Alliance offer instruction. The grand old tree, Gatekeeper Cranewort, gives her a valuable lesson on how to read subconscious emotions in others, using a craft called clairvoyance. A sky reader or sibyl from the nomadic Qumeli tribe adds to Lyra’s knowledge of mystic astronomy begun by the Imperial Dragon. This enables her to call upon scribal powers of her ancestors locked in her birthmate star. But, the price for that knowledge proves great, opening a door for an evil cimafa to come near.

Lyra’s most dangerous lessons come from the two alchemists. Eburscon, from the Alliance, teaches her the basics of alchemy that help Lyra understand her inheritance. However, his amazing knowledge puts her and Cullen in a life-or-death situation. For Lyra’s last and most valuable lesson she must travel into a frozen tundra region to meet undercover with the evil alchemist, Tarom. He is the only one able to teach her skills of fascination craft at the time she most desperately needs them.

Instead of a relaxed learning environment, Lyra is under the gun. She’s anxious to use her new skills to find who may have murdered her aunt. Additionally, she is constantly pursued by those wishing to steal her scribal aura, which would leave her as good as dead without a soul. Those who attempt to protect Lyra are often injured in the process. These stresses force Lyra to race through her magic craft lessons, in attempt to stay a step ahead of the Dark Realm.

Lyra McCauley receives an alarming letter from the coroner who evaluated her deceased aunt, originally thought to have died of cancer. The news causes Lyra to take leave from her job and travel from sunny Tampa to the frozen island community in northern Michigan. Questioning whether Dragonspeir magic was responsible for her aunt’s death, she resolves to learn the truth and accepts the Imperial Dragon’s appointment into the Alliance sorcery training.

Additionally, becoming proficient in magic craft is the only way she can bridge the gap between her mortal human world and her lover’s. Cullen, a 220-year-old wizard, is dependent upon his Dragonspeir magic for immortality. He is her only family now; she cannot lose him.

Evil forces block her and try to steal her inherited scribal aura. Riding a stealth dragon, a cloaked rider pursues Lyra. Both the Alliance and Dark Realm alchemists lay tricks and traps. Her aura equals that of the first and most powerful Scribe, but will Lyra’s novice training allow her to discover the truth? Will she be able to be with Cullen, or will the Dark Realm keep them apart?
