Synopsis From The Back Cover:

Flirting With The Grave...

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father---the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.

In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner--are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side...and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Saph's Review:

From the age of 16, Catherine (Cat) Crawford has sought vengeance against the vampire that raped her mother.  The result of that encounter was Cat, a half-breed - half vampire / half human and not accepted by either group.  But when you withdraw from your human clan and murder your vampire clan, you tend to stay an outsider.

She'd encourage, wholeheartedly in her murderous endeavors by her mother, who has a mindset that breeds hatred for all things fanged.  And she's instilled this hatred into Cat.  That is until Cat preys on the wrong vamp and she ends up on the wrong side of the handcuffs....

Then she does the unthinkable to protect Bones - her captor who didn't just capture her in a bust gone wrong but captured her heart, too!!

This is the first book in The Night Huntress series.  I'm absolutely in love with Cat and Bones as heroine and hero.  Cat is 22 in this book and is portrayed as a strong, independent, and humorous woman.  Bones is stronger, sexy, and bound and determined to lasso in Cat and prove to her that not all vampires roam the earth on murderous/rapist sprees.

When Bones captures Cat he strikes a deal with her.  You see, Bones is a bounty hunter---of his own kind.  He kills vampires with money on their heads.  He and Cat join forces, which totally makes sense since she's been killing vampires since she was 16.  Cat now has a protector lurking in the shadows .

Halfway To The Grave kept me engaged from the get go.  There aren't any parts that I skipped over, skimmed, or rolled my eyes at due to lunacy.  I found Cat and Bones to be very entertaining on many levels; humorous interactions, romance, partnership, etc.  They have a chemistry that many hero/heroine unions can only wish they had.  Sexually inexperienced Cat blushes at everything sexual that dirty-minded Bones mentions and the innuendos that hint at sex.  While he eventually breaks her of her modesty, the ride getting her to that point is laugh-out-loud funny.

One of my new favorite vampire series' and I can't wait for Book 2.

Please Note:  This book contains "adult scenes and language" along with violence.

Cole's talent for weaving paranormal romance continues to shine in her latest installment of the "Immortals After Dark" series. Strong characterization, settings that readers can breathe in, danger in many ruthless forms, and a heady pace are key ingredients to another winner, and definitely present in this novel. A few sections had the potential to slow then entire story to a crawl, but Cole avoided this common writers' trap with style.
