Synopsis Courtesy Of Goodreads:

Dry Creek has been home to the Layton family for generations, a heritage Claire Layton and her brothers Hank, Chris and Sam all appreciate. Claire is a successful, though somewhat debt-ridden, restaurateur who minds her own business—literally. She has enough on her plate between an irascible chef, an abandoned sous-chef, and the pressure of running her highly praised eatery, Harvest Bistro. But when she discovers one of her customers dead in her dumpster, her world begins to unravel.

Even as her County Sheriff brother Hank and his team are still swarming the property looking for evidence, Claire receives a threatening call. It seems there’s a slight problem involving the dead young woman in the dumpster. She doesn’t have her phone and her flash drive with her. The killer makes it clear that Claire better find them by noon the next day or he’ll go after her and her entire family.

With the clock ticking, Claire searches for the missing items to no avail. Complicating matters is the arrival of Jake Warrick, a hotshot security expert hired by the dead woman’s father to find her killer. Claire’s trying her best to get Jake out of her restaurant when her Jeep goes up in flames. The noon deadline has passed.

Determined to find the killer and to keep her family safe, Claire refuses to back down, even as the murderer continues to terrorize her. Jake isn’t backing down either, and the tension between the two—sexual and otherwise—continues to mount. Jake has no intention of leaving Claire in danger—or of leaving at all before he gets to know her much, much better.

Clues, most leading nowhere, pile up, and the threads of the mystery are becoming still more complicated, even as the killer comes closer and closer to claiming his prize—and his prey.

Review:

Claire has finally made her dreams come true in the form of Harvest Bistro, the restaurant she owns and operates in Dry Creek, Nebraska.  One evening after Harvest is closed and Claire is cleaning up and hauling trash out, she discovers one of her patrons in the dumpster.  Claire's dream quickly becomes a nightmare.  While the local police department, headed up by the local sheriff, who is also her brother, do their thing, Claire receives a threatening phone call from a villain she names The Voice Of Doom.  Apparently the dead patron has some items that were promised to him and when she refused to give them up, he killed her.  Now he expects Claire to locate them and give them to him---or he will kill everyone in her family.

Enter Jake - a hot and steamy investigator with a security firm from Denver, Colorado.  He's hired by the deceased girl's step-father to locate her killer, and the missing items, by any means necessary.  What he didn't plan on was meeting his match with Claire.

With a killer on the loose, the dead girl's items still missing, and the unraveling of Claire's life, Jake falls for Claire and loyalties previously set, are now beginning to shift.

I spent all day yesterday reading this book--savoring it as best I could.  I instantly liked Claire and her attitude and, like Claire, fell for Jake as soon as he entered her restaurant.  Clair and Jake live hundreds of miles apart, come from different backgrounds, lead different lives, and yet are completely consumed with one another.  This is a believable story of love at almost first sight.  Her ability to have him shirtless less than 30 seconds after meeting him is awesome!  Claire is very strong heroine - as her world is crumbling, she still manages to keep her sanity.  She continues to try and help figure out the mystery of the dead girl and why some of her possessions are as important to various people as they are.  She's sporting an injured heart from a past relationship that keeps her from reaching out to anyone - until Jake arrives.  Jake, the man who isn't looking for anything but a naked woman in his bed, is drawn to Claire like his lungs draw air - He can't seem to stay away from her.

This book was totally believable from start to finish.  They mystery element kept me engaged in helping Claire and Jake solve the murder of the restaurant patron.  The clues that they were given didn't always work out and kept you guessing.  While the mystery wasn't complex, it wasn't one that you figured out by the second chapter.  The main components (the missing items) and the inability to find them helped strengthen the resolve to find them.  The items were too important to too many people to not provide necessary information that could break the case wide open.

There was passion between Claire and Jake - sexual tension, sexual content, and best of all....Love.  This book contains explicit sexual scenes but they aren't cheesy or unbelievable nor are they what I would consider to be erotica.  The passages are tasteful and express the type of pent up energy I would expect between the two characters.  I choked up at the end because I get that involved with my books, especially with ones that contain realist scenarios and likable characters.

I love, love, love this book.  I will be reviewing Book #2 "Seduction Creek" tomorrow and I can't wait!!!

Please note:  This book contains "adult scenes."
